On 21 September 2026, the consortium held its Mid Term Review with the European Commission. The meeting took place online, and partners presented the progress achieved so far up to the midpoint of the project to the Project Officer and the Project Reviewers.
After an opening closed-door session, RAVE welcomed the participants following with the introduction of the the project’s context, objectives and system architecture together with DLR.
The morning session covered the project’s foundations and core technologies:
- WP1 – Project Management: overall coordination, technical coordination, risk and quality management, and IPR and data management.
- WP2 – System Architecture, Use Cases & Techno-Economic Study: scenario definition, the design of the unified 6G TN/NTN architecture, and the KPI and techno-economic analysis.
- WP3 – Energy-Efficient Radio-Optical 3D Network Components: progress on FSO and on-board processing, the LiFi transceiver prototype, the multi-band antenna, and the disaggregated RAN.
The afternoon session focused on connectivity, orchestration, validation and impact:
- WP4 – Multi-Connectivity Solutions for Integrated Wireless Optical-Radio 3D Networks: multi-connectivity strategies, prediction-based models, large-scale simulations, and the 5G Core setup validation.
- WP5 – 6G TN/NTN Network Management & Orchestration: the edge-cloud continuum, smart orchestration, and AI-based resource management.
- WP6 – Use-case Integrations, Validation & Demonstration: status of the three Proofs of Concept in aviation, automotive and railway.
- WP7 – Communication, Dissemination, Exploitation & Standardization: dissemination and communication activities, standardization contributions, EU liaisons and synergies, and exploitation.
- DLR then presented the lessons learnt and recommendations.
We thank the European Commission, our Project Officer and the Project Reviewer for their time and constructive input. We also thank all partners, DLR, RAVE, Eight Bells, OHB, aeroLiFi, RF Microtech, SRS, CNAM, RomARS, TU Wien, Magister, CNIT, University of Naples Federico II, Network Rail, Stellantis, HPE, OTE and Hellas Sat, for their contributions and hard work in preparing for this milestone.
