The avionic use cases of the NexaSphere project and its initial network architectures were presented by the project coordinator, Babak Mafakheri, in the paper “Towards Cloud-Native RAN for 6G NTN-Based Connectivity in Aviation.” during IEEE Future Networks World Forum 2025 in Bangalore, India. The paper was co-authored by Babak Mafakheri, Mohamed Hafidi, and Leonardo Goratti (Safran Passenger Innovations GmbH, Germany); Farzad Veisi (CNAM, France); and Tomaso De Cola (German Aerospace Center – DLR, Germany).

The presentation showcased simulation results and early findings, illustrating how a disaggregated RAN can be implemented using a cloud-native approach to support next-generation aviation connectivity.
